The President General of Ogidi Town Union, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, has been shot and killed alongside another yet-to-be-identified man in a late-night attack that has thrown the community into shock and mourning.

According to information circulating from local sources, the incident occurred in the late hours of 6th of February 2026 at The Ebenezer Field Ogidi and is suspected to be linked to ongoing tensions following the recent death of Emma Amasco, an alleged member and leader of the Aye (Neo Black Movement, NBM) cult group. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the attackers or the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

Anonymous Sources alleged that members of the Aye (NBM) cult had accused Chief Okoye and some local security operatives of being involved in the arrest of Emma Amasco, who later died after sustaining injuries while in custody. Prior to his death, Emma Amasco was reportedly arrested during a theft operation at a local complex, where stolen phones worth millions of naira were allegedly recovered.

The same sources allege that threats were issued against those believed to have played a role in Emma’s arrest, with warnings of retaliation. Chief Okoye, however, was widely known in the community as not being a cultist, but rather a community leader engaged in town affairs.

The killing of the Ogidi President General has heightened fear among residents, particularly amid reports that cult groups may now be targeting community leaders and security personnel. Many residents are calling on the Anambra State Government and security agencies to take decisive action against cultism and organised criminal gangs operating in the area.

Community voices stress that the cycle of violence will only continue unless cult activities are confronted directly and systematically.

As investigations continue, Ogidi town remains tense. Residents have expressed grief over the loss of a respected leader and concern over the safety of public office holders and ordinary citizens alike.

Authorities are expected to release an official statement as more facts emerge.
