Men of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old woman, Mrs. Onwanna Nnenna, for the attempted murder of her 14-year-old house maid, Miss Ijeoma Nwafor, at Otu Street, Awada, Obosi

The suspect, who hails from Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area, was apprehended following a distress call regarding a severe case of domestic violence that nearly claimed the life of the young survivor.

The Incident

According to official police reports, the victim, a native of Achalla in Awka North Local Government Area, was being severely beaten by her employer when she was pushed from the balcony of a four-storey building.

Eyewitness accounts from the neighborhood indicate that the 14-year-old landed precariously on the sharp spikes of a perimeter fence with her legs while trying to survive the assault. Miraculously, she survived the catastrophic fall, though she sustained severe injuries.

Police Intervention and Medical Response

Following the incident, residents alerted the Awada Police Division. Law enforcement officers moved quickly to the scene, arresting Mrs. Onwanna Nnenna and securing the environment.

The victim, Ijeoma Nwafor, was immediately rescued from the fence and rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving intensive medical treatment for the physical trauma sustained from both the beating and the fall.

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for child abuse and severe domestic violence, confirming that the case will be fully investigated and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent prosecution. Local child rights advocates are also tracking the development to ensure justice is served and that the young survivor receives proper rehabilitation.
