The Anambra State Police Command has cracked a three-month-old missing person case, revealing a grim tale of a romantic feud, alleged spiritual illness, and murder. Two young men have been arrested in connection with the machete killing of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, were apprehended by detectives on June 6, 2026, following an intense digital forensic investigation.

Timeline of the Crime

The case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. The search took a tragic turn the very next day, March 14, when the lifeless body of an unidentified female was discovered dumped inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite. The deceased’s father later positively identified the body as his missing daughter.

Recognizing the severity of the crime, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where operatives spent nearly three months tracking the suspects using digital trails.

A Feud with the Husband and a Fatal Ambush

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the principal suspect, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, has fully confessed to orchestrating the murder, shedding light on a bitter, tangled backhistory.

Ikwugwara told interrogators that he had been in a romantic relationship with the victim for roughly three years, claiming he was entirely unaware that she was married. Upon discovering the truth, a bitter confrontation ensued between Ikwugwara and the woman’s husband.

Following that clash, the relationship ended, but a bizarre twist fueled Ikwugwara’s resentment. The ex-boyfriend claimed that shortly after the confrontation with the husband, he developed a “strange illness” that severely damaged his eyesight. Convinced the husband or the situation was responsible for his failing health, his resentment boiled over into a plot for revenge against the woman.

On March 13, Ikwugwara used their past relationship to lure the woman to his residence, pretending he desperately needed her help because of his worsening illness.

“Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, resulting in her death,” SP Ikenga stated. “The suspects subsequently disposed of the body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, in the early hours of the following day.”

Facing Justice

Both suspects are currently in custody and have admitted to their roles in the gruesome killing. Police authorities confirmed they will be formally arraigned and charged in court as soon as the final investigation concludes.

Reacting to the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the resilience of the SCID detectives, reiterating that the command remains fiercely committed to ensuring total justice for victims of violent crimes within the state.
