A dramatic and chaotic scene unfolded at a court premises in Anambra State when a sitting lawmaker, Hon. Udemezue, wept openly and bolted into a nearby bush amid sporadic gunfire after a magistrate ordered him remanded in prison.

The politician is facing severe charges connected to the brutal sexual assault of a 24-year-old chef.

The Allegations

According to investigative documents and police sources, the case stems from an incident where the lawmaker allegedly forced the 24-year-old victim to his private residence rather than her intended destination, subjecting her to a severe sexual assault. When the victim reportedly resisted, she sustained physical injuries from the assault.

Following initial police investigations and multiple unheeded invitations, Hon. Udemezue allegedly fled the state and went into hiding in Abuja, prompting security agencies to declare him wanted before he was eventually cornered and brought before the court.

Courtroom Drama and Escape Attempt

During the court proceedings, tension reached a breaking point when the presiding magistrate delivered the ruling to remand the lawmaker. Overcome with emotion, the lawmaker reportedly broke down in tears before violently shoving court officials and police guards aside.

In a desperate bid to evade custody, he bolted out of the courtroom and sprinted directly into the surrounding thick bush. The sudden escape attempt triggered immediate panic, drawing security operatives into a chaotic foot chase accompanied by gunfire.

Re-arrest and Detention

Following an intensive tactical pursuit through the brush by heavily armed security operatives, the fleeing lawmaker was re-arrested. Bound and heavily guarded, he was subsequently transported under maximum security to the Awka Correctional Centre, where he is currently being held pending further legal proceedings.
