A coalition of more than 40 civil society organizations has alleged that Senator Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, has failed to either allocate land or refund payments made for an estate project in Lugbe, Abuja.
Background
According to the coalition, several subscribers paid about $1.2 million (₦1 billion) through Zoe Dew Dawn Nigeria Ltd. to Chupi Company Limited, chaired by Senator Ukachukwu, in 2022. The funds were reportedly meant for the allocation of estate plots.
The groups claim that despite proof of payment, no land has been allocated and no refunds have been issued after more than three years.
Ultimatum Issued
The subscribers, through the coalition, have given Senator Ukachukwu and Chupi Company Limited a seven-day ultimatum to either:
- Refund the full amount paid, or
- Allocate the estate lands as initially agreed.
The coalition stated that if the demands are not met, the subscribers may resort to peaceful protests in Anambra State.
Call for Intervention
The coalition also called on regulatory agencies, anti-corruption bodies, and law enforcement authorities to take up the matter. Petitions are expected to be submitted to the Anambra State APC chapter, the party’s national secretariat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and relevant security agencies.
Political Context
The development comes ahead of the Anambra governorship election, with the coalition saying the issue raises concerns about accountability and trust in leadership.
