The Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that it will comply with the court judgment from the Federal High Court sitting in Awka regarding the reinstatement of Prof. Charles Soludo and Sen. Ugochukwu Uba as the Candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.
In their separate judgments on Monday in Awka, Justice Obiora Nwabunike, who presided over the case involving Uba, Valentine Ozigbo and the PDP, said the party erred by using what is called ‘Super delegates’ without vacating the Abuja Court order, while Justice Okaa stated that 2019 national convention that brought Victor Oye as National Chairman of APGA is still valid therefore INEC should with immediate effect recieve and publish the Candidate Victor Oye submitted to them.
The commission said they are bound by section 287 of the constitution to comply with the order of the court, Festus Okoye who is the Chairman Voter Information and Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission while speaking state that this order will be effected once they receive a Certified True Copy of Judgement, he went further to say that the commission will not act based on report of the court proceedings by media houses.
