Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have dismantled a mini-factory dedicated to manufacturing and distributing adulterated alcoholic beverages, arresting two suspects in an early morning raid today, June 15, 2026.
The suspects, identified as 42-year-old Ikechukwu Okeke and 38-year-old Okeke Chukwuemeka, were apprehended by the command’s Rapid Response Squad and the Vice Crimes and Regulatory Unit (VCRU) following actionable intelligence.
The Raid and Confession
According to preliminary investigations, the two individuals belong to a sophisticated syndicate that specializes in counterfeiting popular liquor brands. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the illicit operation and led police operatives directly to their hidden production facility.
During the raid on the mini-factory, police recovered a massive haul of counterfeit consumable products. The suspects had been replicating high-profile brands, including:
* Seaman’s Schnapps
* McDowell’s
* Eagle Schnapps
* Elliot Hot Drinks
* Baileys Fresh Cream
In addition to the ready-to-sell fake liquor, police seized dangerous chemicals used in the blending process, alongside thousands of empty bottles, replica brand labels, and packaging materials meant for future production.
Official Response
The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the swift action of the operatives. He issued a stern warning to bootleggers and counterfeiters operating within the state, emphasizing that the command will not hesitate to clamp down on those risking public health for illicit profit.
“Individuals engaged in the production and distribution of counterfeit consumable products must desist immediately or face the full weight of the law,” CP Orutugu warned.

The suspects remain in police custody, and the recovered chemicals and beverages have been secured for forensic analysis. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations are actively ongoing to track down remaining members of the syndicate and map out the full scale of their dist
