The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the biological parents of twin infants whose lifeless bodies were discovered abandoned in a drainage system in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the act, describing it as a disturbing case of “man’s inhumanity to man” and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.

According to an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident came to light in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Residents discovered the bodies of the twins dumped inside a gutter along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, in the densely populated Okpoko area.

“Following the report, operatives immediately swung into action, secured the scene, gathered vital evidence, and commenced investigations,” SP Ikenga stated.

Swift Police Intervention

Operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Headquarters launched a rapid preliminary investigation, which successfully tracked down and identified the biological parents of the deceased infants.

While the identities of the suspects have not yet been made public, police confirmed they are currently in custody and are cooperating with investigators to unravel what led to the abandonment of the newborns.

Call for Justice

CP Orutugu commended the swift response and diligence of the tracking team. He emphasized that every child deserves protection, care, and the right to life, warning that the Command will ensure justice is fully served.

“Anyone found culpable in the incident faces the full weight of the law,” the Police Commissioner reiterated.

The police command stated that a full investigation is still underway, and further developments will be communicated to the public as they unfold.
