The Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha has launched its Television Station called Sapientia TV.
The epoch making event attracted highly respected dignitaries including the Archbishop of Onitsha and metropolitan of Onitsha ecclesiastical province His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke, Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by the Commissioner of information C. Don Adinuba, the chairman board of directors of the centre Sir John C. Odike KSM, HRH Igwe Alfred Achebe ( Obi of Onitsha) represented by Chief Ifejika a.k.a Onolioguda among many others.
In his speech, Archbishop Val Okeke who is also the founder of the centre while expressing gratitude to the board members, the managing director, staff of the centre and fans of Radio Sapientia stated that the success recorded by Radio Sapientia is all over the place, disclosing that the quality programmes of the station are second to none and commands wide number of listeners far and beyond. He attributed the success of the station to the coherent manner the board has carried out its oversight functions.
He charged the centre to maintain and improve on upon the success achieved so far. The prelate also enjoined the centre to keep striving to archive and maintain excellence they are known for.
Governor Obiano in his speech poured encomiums on the centre for soaring higher, stating that radio Sapientia is known for traditional excellence for the past ten years, adding that the station is a great partner in progress in Anambra. He revealed that the station is rich in her social mobilization, educational programmes etc, pledging to give every support the centre may require from the government.
Also the Chairman board of directors Sir Odike in his own speech said since the inception of the station ten years ago, the centre had objective to attain excellence in the broadcast industry through pro- active, dynamic and quality oriented programmes, adding that the centre has really paid a price to remain in business. He thanked Archbishop Val for initiating the project and as well supporting it immensely.
The managing director of the centre Rev Fr.Dr. Aloy Osy Orakwe in his remarks rained accolades on Archbishop Val, Board of directors, staff and fans of Radio Sapientia for their various contributions to the success story of the media centre.
Others who spoke at the event including CWO director Onitsha Archdiocese Dame Ngozi Nwanosike, the Enugu, Zonal director National Broadcasting Service (NBC) Mrs Ifeoma, Anambra Commissioner of police Echeng Echeng who was represented by Onitsha Area commander John Obuagbaka and others congratulated Sapientia international media centre, Onitsha for doggedness and for transforming our immediate society.
