WHY NDI-ANAMBRA SHOULD PAY THEIR TAXES
By Izuchukwu Adichie
Governments all over the world need revenue to perform its essential social and public services. It requires sufficient source of funding vis-a-vise improved revenues to provide basic infrastructure, quality health service, competitive educational system, sustainable waste management, clean and greener environment and other services.
It is worthy to note that ndi-Anambra are aware that their taxes are social contract between them and state economy, hence, they voted Chukwuma Soludo as their governor, so he will provide services that are important to achieve common goal of a secured and prosperous homeland where people could live happily, enjoy happily and work happily. To ensure effectiveness, governor Soludo has kickstarted a harmonized new Anambra digital tax collection across the state aimed at ending multiple taxation, extortion, touts, non-remittance of fund accrued to government treasury, illegal revenue checkpoints, harrassment of transporters, traders and buyers, and intimidation of citizens.
It therefore became necessary for Soludo’s government to block all tax leakages inorder to ramp-up accrued revenues. As the revenue collecton has been digitized, it is worthy to note that Individuals, Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been banned from collecting revenues for the government, hence making it a sole responsibility of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service -AiRS to collect revenues for and on behalf of the government.
