The Governors and Stake Holders of the South East region of Nigeria held a security meeting in Enugu today 5th October 2021 at the Government House with the agenda of the meeting being the worrisome security situation of the region, the rising tension of the agitation for self determination by the IPOB and the incessant sit at home in the region.
The meeting had in attendance three governors of Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo,while the Anambra State governor was conspicuously absent.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, however, joined the meeting late and left shortly after. Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, sent his deputy, Ude Okochukwu.
Also in attendance are former governors of Abia, Theodore Orji; Ebonyi, Martins Elechi; National Assembly leader in South East, Ike Ekwemadu; and the senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Others are former Enugu State State Governor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, former President General of Ohananeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Deputy Minority leader, House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu, chairman of Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Amb. Lawrence Agubuzu, among others.
This is the second of the meeting held by the south east stakeholders that the Governor is failing to attend and even failing to send a representative, same situation occured during the last southern governor’s meeting.
This sort of absence in security meetings begs for serious concern judging with the state of security in the state for the past 2 weeks that has resulted in killings and burning of vehicles and public offices, residents and indigenes of Anambra will start wondering if the Governor of the state is giving the security of the state the much needed attention.
The Governor should as a matter of urgency address the state as this situation is beginning to raise eye brows and begs for concern.
