The governors of Southern Nigeria today met at the Government House in Asaba Delta State to deliberate on pressing national issues with the arrow head being the Security of the Country.
These Governors Comprised of states from the South East, South South and the South West numbering 17 in all, the security of lives and properties has become a matter of urgency in the country with lives lost on a daily basis through attacks by Herdsmen and lately the Unknown Gunmen in the South East, The Governors also discussed matters bothering on the make up of the Security Chiefs in the Country which does not represent federal character and as such is lopsided.
This meeting ended with the Governors issuing a strong Communique which included strong messages to the federal government, major part of it was the banning of open grazing in the entire southern region of the country and the movement of cattle by Foot, The Federal Government as a matter of Urgency Change the Security Architecture of the Service Chiefs to represent Federal Character, Urgent and Bold Steps should be taken to restructure the Nigeria Federation and the Revenue Allocation formula in favour of the sub national government and the evolution of State Police should also be put into consideration.
The Communique went further to say the federal government should consider opening up other seaports in other parts of the southern Nigeria to ease the gridlock which being currently experienced at the apapa wharf axis as this is like the only port servicing the entire nation.
